Happy New Year to everyone!

We have been very busy here at CEUS bringing our society into the future!

Our website is becoming more functional each day and I am happy to say that we are now completely paperless in getting certificates out to the membership! We set a record with 426 Core Certificates sent out in 2015 and we have already had 30 new IPs join our ranks in 2016!

We have also been quite busy getting our new committees up and running with a few already getting to work. Our PEM (Pediatric Emergency Medicine) Committee is leading the way in developing a new certification track to guide how we use POCUS to treat our youngest patients.

We are still looking for keen and eager members to join many of our other committees. If you are interested in helping shape POCUS for years to come in our country send us a email at or contact the committee chair directly.

Extended Applications

Formerly know as the advanced applications. We have changed the name to emphasize that the Core Certification is very important to obtain before completing more advanced certification(s).

We have started beta testing the examination series for these new tracks and should have everything ready for primetime by mid-2016!

Interesting Cases

CEUS would like to expand our reach and impact through social media.

We are looking for people interested in helping to post regular interesting cases in a question / answer format to Twitter and Facebook.

Family Medicine / Rural Medicine Certification Track

We have begun the initial planning stages in the development of a certification track specific to the needs of family physicians for using POCUS in the office or in remote settings.

Also, CEUS is happy to announce that we have also chosen co-chairs for this track! Drs Taft Micks and Kyle Sue will be helping lead the way.

Medical Student / Resident Interest Groups

These groups are starting to take shape but could always use more help to get things going full steam ahead!

If would like to help shape a CEUS pathway for undergraduate medical education or a defined residency curriculum please let us know.

We are also looking for volunteers to help with our social media and online initiatives as well as with any of our other committees. The more the merrier!

CEUS Awards

We are now accepting nominations for our first CEUS Awards. If you know someone who is deserving for our Researcher of the Year, Educator of the Year and Clinician of the Year Awards we would like to know.

These individuals would have shown excellence and dedication to POCUS research, education or high quality clinical use over the past year or more.

Other Committees

We are still looking for members / chairs for the following committees:

Accreditation: Help us define criteria to grant CEUS accreditation to residency programs. Graduates of accredited programs would automatically be given CEUS certification.

Competency: How do we best define someone competent to use POCUS? It's a tough question and we need lots of thoughtful and dedicated people to help answer it. Maybe that's you?

Research: Doing POCUS research? Do you want to connect with other researchers and collaborate? Want to get started but don't have a lot of resources? Join this committee and work with colleagues from across the country to shape how POCUS is done into the future!

Core Certification Requests

Reminder that all new requests for Core Certification (aorta, basic cardiac, first trimester pregnancy, free fluid) should be made online with our new submission form.

We will no longer accept mailed or emailed paper forms and all payments must be made online via Paypal.

We are very proud to announce that internationally acclaimed Medical Intensivist, Professor Daniel Lichtenstein, widely regarded as the father of Critical Care and Lung Ultrasound, will return to Osler. Dr. Lichtenstein is the founder of CEURF (www.ceurf.net).

The formal CEURF Agenda will be presented by Dr. Lichtenstein at Osler as a 1.5 day Didactic Session on June 1 and 2, 2016.
